Bankruptcy Home Poll Results Show Obama Leads With Those Seeking Bankruptcy Protections

» Full Poll Results

A poll conducted by BankruptcyHome.com reveals most people using the site to find information about filing bankruptcy have a genuine interest in the 2008 presidential election. 74.55 percent of respondents said that the election was very important to them.

Democratic presidential candidate Barak Obama was the choice when respondents were asked which of the major-party candidates they felt would be the better choice to handle the economy. He received 48.17 percent of the support voiced by respondents compared to 21.39 percent for Republican candidate John McCain.

The results mirror polls that show Obama pulling ahead of McCain in the battleground states of Pennsylvania and Michigan. McCain though is still holding slight leads in polls conducted in Indiana and Missouri. National polls have the pair close to even.

The poll suggests that those who face personal bankruptcy because of financial difficulties tend to favor the Democratic candidate. Democrats have been trying to shore up support among middle-class voters who have had financial difficulties in the recent economic turmoil.

People seeking information on bankruptcy or free consultations with a bankruptcy attorney responded to the poll on the BankruptcyHome.com Web site during September. During that time, the meltdown of the credit markets brought more attention in the presidential race to economic issues. Over 56 percent of respondents chose the economy as the top issue of the campaign.

The only other issue to make it into double digit percentages in the BankruptcyHome.com poll was energy at 15.38 percent. Obama held a 47.07 percent approval of respondents on energy issues compared to 24.36 percent for McCain on energy.

The war on terror and health care were the only other issues to garner more than 5 percent of respondents' choices as the top issue.

The gap between the two narrowed on the issue of the war on terror, 40.91 percent said that Obama was the man for the job, while 33.57 chose McCain.

Obama was the choice of 50.74 percent of respondents as the better candidate to handle health-care issues, the only time one of the candidates received more than 50 percent of the response, compared to 21.39 percent for McCain.

The Democrat led his Republican opponent in all but one of the questions asked of participants in the BankruptcyHome.com poll. McCain was chosen by 37.63 percent of respondents as the more experienced candidate for president, while just 29.82 percent said that Obama was the more experienced candidate.
