Bankruptcy Lawyer

How do you know if you have the right lawyer for your Bankruptcy? It’s hard to know if you are making the right decision when hiring a lawyer. If you go into your initial meeting prepared, some of the apprehension can be avoided.

A Lawyer has two main duties, to uphold the law and protect the client’s rights. Each state has strict standards that must be met before a person is licensed to practice law. Some requirements include having a bachelor’s degree or it’s equivalent, complete three years at an accredited law school, pass a state bar examination, (usually lasting 2-3 days), pass a character and fitness review, take an oath swearing to uphold the laws and the state and federal constitution, and receive a license from the state supreme court.

Besides being licensed to practice law in your state, your lawyer should have good communication with you. You should receive a basic description of your legal matter and what to expect. The initial meeting is a good time to ask questions to insure that your lawyer is familiar with bankruptcy laws and procedures and also thoroughly understands your case. Questions you might include in your initial meeting:

 What kind of experience do you have?
 What is the possible outcome of my case?
 What happens if the lawyer and client disagree?
 What can I expect the fee’s to be?
 What can I do to help with my case?

When you hire a lawyer you should feel confident that he or she has your best interest in mind and will do the best job possible to protect your rights.
