Moving while in Chapter 13

We know that many people move while in a Chapter 13 bankruptcy. Often times they move, because they have surrendered their home through their bankruptcy and must now rent or lease a residence. Another common reason for moving is the expiration of a lease contract. Whatever the reason may be, it is important to notify one’s attorney of the move immediately, so that the change of address can be noted, allowing the line of communication between attorney and client to remain intact. If you do not notify your attorney, and they need to get in contact with you, it makes it more difficult.

At any time that you move, or your phone numbers change, contact your attorney’s office in writing to let them know of the change. This will allow any problems that arise in your case to be dealt with more immediately. Your attorney will notify the trustee’s office as well as the courts of this change as well.

Please keep in mind that staying in touch is the best thing that you can do. Like I previously stated, if something comes up and we have to get in touch with you immediately, it will make it much easier if we know where you are and how to reach you.
