Is it Wise to Pay a Creditor Before Filing Bankruptcy
I had a debtor the other day that has paid her attorney fees in full, but wanted to wait to file. The reason why she wanted to wait to file was so she could pay an unsecured credit card off. I tried to convince her that even though you pay it off, they may not continue to give her credit, which is what she was intending to do. The truth is, you should listen to your attorney when they tell you that if you pay it off, they will still likely shut off your credit privileges. If you are going to file for bankruptcy, it really shouldn’t matter if you pay it off; it is just throwing your money down the drain for nothing. I had someone else take a stab at it to convince her. I don’t know how she did it, but she did. It is just a waste of money if you really think that they are going to continue to extend your credit. They will tell you whatever it is you want to hear, so they can get their money. Don’t be fooled by their tactics. Be smart and do not throw your money down the drain.
