Patience, My Dear Bankruptcy Debtor

After being in Chapter 13 Bankruptcy for 36 to 60 months, it is understandable that the debtor will be very anxious to receive their discharge after making their final payment to the Chapter 13 Trustee.

After the final payment on bankruptcy is posted then the Trustee must make a final disbursement of funds. This happens about 30 days after final payment is posted. Your case is then sent to the closing dept. at the Trustee’s office where a Discharge Order will be generated and uploaded with the courts for the Judge’s signature.

This entire process takes about 45 - 60 days after you make your final bankruptcy plan payment. If you do not have your discharge order within 60 days then you should contact your attorney so they can contact the Trustee’s office for status of Discharge Order. This process if a procedure of the Trustee’s office and not to be rushed.
