Debtor Education Course Requirement

After your Chapter 7 case has been filed, there are only a few more things that you must do before your case gets discharged. One of the items that you must do is complete a Debtor Education course. This course is required by all Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 Debtors that file for bankruptcy. This course provides you with information to help you succeed after bankruptcy to ensure that you don’t end up in the same place.

The Debtor Education course is a course that is offered online. This allows you to take the course in your own home. If you don’t have access to the internet, you may consult with your bankruptcy attorney and they may have facilities available for you to take the course.

Failure to take the course in a Chapter 7 bankruptcy will result in your case being closed without discharge. This is not a good thing, because all of your creditors that you were seeking protection from can now contact you and collect the debt that you were seeking to discharge. If you have any concerns or questions related to the Debtor Education course, please contact your bankruptcy attorney immediately to find out what your options are.
