Stopping Debt Collection Calls

As a Debtor you come in to see a bankruptcy attorney to seek what options you have available. You decide that you should file a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. You retain the attorney and are given their number so that when creditors call, they can be told that you have retained their services. This is supposed to help with any creditor calls you have that are coming in. Today I received a call for one of our chapter 7 bankruptcy clients and they are not willing to stop the calls until he has paid his retainer in full and they have a case number. I thought that to be wrong and talked with the attorney to find out what we could do. The bankruptcy attorney stated that as long as they are collecting legally, then they have every right to call them. Most creditors will accept the number and will stop the calls, but then there are others that will not stop until you have a case number for your Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
