Chapter 7 Bankruptcy: Discharge

Once you have completed the Meeting of creditors and the second online course, the financial management course, you are on your way to a Chapter 7 discharge. The Chapter 7 discharge comes about two months after the meeting of creditors and the bankruptcy courts will automatically mail out the discharge to the individual debtors.

A question about credit report arises once the case is discharged from a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Once the case is discharged and you pull your credit report, it is going to be your responsibility to review and ensure everything is accurate. If the credit report is not accurate, then you must write a letter to all three of the credit bureaus disputing the items that are reflecting incorrect on your credit report. It is best to send them the letter regular and certified mail, so you know that they received the information. Once this is done, you should be able to see an increase in your credit score within one to two years after your Chapter 7 discharge. If you have any questions regarding the chapter 7 discharge, please contact your bankruptcy attorney.
